早些时候，我们已经提到，预计郁金香的生长不好。不幸的是，我们现在的结论是：收获结果比“不好”的描述更差。坦率的说，郁金香种球的生长非常非常的差。

气候环境导致生长差

所有的气候条件都不利于郁金香种球的生长。

去年10月、11月、12月，郁金香籽球播种期间，我们遇到长时间的雨、霜，导致能够种植种球的时间很短，雨会产生水害，霜会造成霜害。这两种影响已经出现在作物的叶片和茎上面。

今年3月、4月、5月，寒冷多雨。雨水导致生产者无法喷洒农药预防灰霉病，导致作物死亡干枯过快。寒冷推迟收获期大约1-2周。之后，生产者去除郁金香花头，郁金香球茎的生长自去头后开始。

今年5月、6月，许多天的气温超过25℃，作物死亡过快，之前因为寒冷推迟的收获期，被高气温拉回了正常收获期，这意味着种球丢失了1-2周的生长期。

今年的种植环境十分恶劣，无论是郁金香去花头前，还是去头后，所有的气候条件都不利于郁金香球茎的生长。

现状

荷兰有14000—15000公顷的土地生产郁金香种球，我们无法对短缺做出精确估计。一些生产者按单供应了数量，但是没有任何额外数量可以提供，大多数生产者种球数量短缺。总体而言，所有规格的种球均短缺。每天我们都收到来自不同生产者缺数的报告，大致情况如下：

12/14，40%-60%短缺

11/12，30%-50%短缺，

10/11，10%-30%短缺

极少数郁金香种球在市场上销售，但是价格非常高。

我公司的展望

我们是一家可靠的出口商，纸面上，我们没有太多缺额，但是气候条件超出了我们的预期。

我们会尽其所能公平地对待订单，缺数会公平地分摊给每个进口商。一旦确定了某个品种的缺额，我们会立即通知进口商，并提供可能的替代方案（如有）。

数量短缺令人沮丧，希望您能予以理解。我们只能一起面对如此糟糕的局面、克服目前的困难。

If you have any interests in growth of tulip bulbs, please read this e-mail carefully:

Earlier, we already mentioned that we expected that the tulip growth would not be good.

But, unfortunately, we have to make the conclusion that the crop can be described as less than not good.

To be frank, the growth of the tulip bulbs is very, very bad.

Climate circumstances causing bad growth

We can make the conclusion that this year all climate circumstances were against the favour of the tulip bulb growth:

October, November, December

During the planting period (October, November, December), we had long periods of rain and frost.

This caused that the growers had a very short period to plant: rain will cause water damage, frost will cause frost damage. Both of these impacts could been seen on the crop.

March, April, May

The spring (March, April, May) was cold and rainy. The rain caused that the growers could not spray against botrytis, which means the crop died off too quick.

The cold caused that the harvest was expected to be 1-2 weeks later than usual. After that growers started de-budding the tulips.

Usually, growth of the tulip bulbs will start after de-budding.

May, June

But after de-budding the tulips (May, June), we had some days with a temperature above 25 degrees.

This meant that the crop died off too quick and that the harvest was expected to be normal again. This means we miss 1-2 weeks of growing period.

All climatical circumstances were against our favour:

Bad planting circumstances, bad climate before de-budding the tulips, and bad climate after de-budding the tulips.

Current situation

Since we grow 14,000-15,000 hectares of tulip bulbs in Holland, we do not like to make estimations concerning the expectations of the shortages.

Some growers manage to make their quantities just as how they are, but (almost) no grower has extra quantities to offer.

In fact, most of the growers are mentioning shortages. In general, these shortages are in all sizes.

Every day, we receive shortages from growers. They can look like this way:

12/14: 40-60% shortage, 11/12: 30-50% shortage, 10/11: 10-30% shortage.

The very few quantities of tulip bulbs which are available on the market, are being sold for very high prices.

What can you expect from PO

PO is an stable company, which mean that on paper we do not have many shortages.

But unfortunately, these climatical circumstances are beyond our reach.

You can expect from us that we will do everything we can, to treat your order as fair as we can do.

This will mean that when we are being mentioned shortages from the grower, the shortages will be divided in a fair way.

We will also mention you shortages as soon as we get the notification from the grower. This way we can adapt quick and hopefully offer you good alternatives.

It is understandable that shortages can be frustrating. But together, we can deal with this bad situation and overcome it.
